Adams Terrace Hailed as Model Affordable Housing Development
by Los Angeles City Planning Commission

Sharp angles, clean lines and storefront facades help inform the design of Adams Terrace, a new scattered site affordable housing development comprising of two vacant urban infill sites in the West Adams neighborhood of  Los Angeles. Situated just blocks east of the intersection of Adams and Crenshaw Boulevard within close proximity to the Expo Crenshaw light rail station, Adams Terrace will offer 86 service-enhanced affordable homes to seniors and formerly homeless/at-risk homeless seniors with convenient access to a wide variety of community amenities.

Adams Terrace integrates the needs of the community in a vibrant residential community that prioritizes both form and function to deliver high-quality living and deepened community connectivity. Each residential structure is characterized by large storefront windows that provide ample light and offer seniors physical and visual connections to the street front. Additionally, balconies and large terraces with secure outdoor gathering areas extend livable space while reducing the building’s visual mass within the neighborhood at-large. One residential structure features a cantilevered section at the fourth floor to create a dynamic visual element that serves as a local landmark and anchors this culturally rich community. Originally designed as two complementary developments, Adams Terrace I received unanimous approval from The City of Los Angeles Planning Commission in May 2017 with Adams II receiving administrative approval in August 2017. The development, hailed as a model for the future of affordable housing in Los Angeles, is expected to begin construction in December 2018.
