Twice as Nice! Abode Communities Awarded Second Mixed-Use Development With Metro to Bring Affordable Housing, a 25,000 sf Grocery Store and Community Park to Boyle Heights
Abode Communities is excited to announce its second mixed-use affordable housing development in partnership with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority (Metro)! This innovative mixed-use development, known as Chavez Fickett, will feature 60 affordable family homes, a 25,000 square foot community-serving grocery store, and a 6,500 square foot community park that will serve as a nexus within the culturally-rich neighborhood of Boyle Heights.
Chavez Fickett thoughtfully responds to the robust transit opportunities along Caesar Chavez Avenue and is situated in close proximity to Metro’s Gold Line Soto Station presenting opportunities for improved community connectivity, including access to local employment opportunities; affordable, healthy food; and a host of life-enriching amenities for community members and residents alike.
As a means to promote transit ridership, the development will offer two bike share stations, as well as long- and short-term residential and commercial bicycle parking. What’s more, Chavez Fickett integrates a public pedestrian trail and an elevated resident promenade in addition to a crosswalk on Mathews Street that connects Chavez Fickett to La Veranda, Abode Communities’ adjacent 77-unit affordable housing development.
Abode Communities is expected to begin community engagement activities in April 2018.
